Offering marine paints that are friendly to the global environment and people to meet the needs of the times
The environmental regulations have been tightened in the global shipbuilding and marine transport industries. Our group enhances the product development system and deploys the marine coatings business based on the keywords of “global,” “ecology,” and “technology.” We focus our resources on the development of cutting-edge environmentally friendly products that meet the needs ahead of the times and that take full advantage of coating technologies refined through many years of operation. To cope with the global shipbuilding and marine transport network, we have a global system in place, with operations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America.

A pioneer of environmentally friendly products to cope with environmental problems
To protect the marine environment, we developed ECOLOFLEX in 1990. This was the world’s first tin-free hydrolysis-type anti-fouling paint for ship bottoms. The world’s first hydrolysis paint, which was free from organic tin, demonstrated a superb anti-fouling performance. We develop paints for vessels that demonstrate performance as marine coatings and ensure environmental protection.

Development of technologies derived from the environment surrounded by the sea
In the development of marine paints, we work on extensive research on marine organisms and pollution mechanisms, which is indispensable for the development of anti-fouling technologies. The results are used for the development of proprietary coating technologies for marine paints. The Marine Seafront Research Center in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, conducts functionality and evaluation tests by reproducing the marine environment, including operation of vessels and mooring. Aiming to dramatically advance our technology research and functional improvement as well as to ensure the coating quality of ship bottoms, we endeavor to develop coatings of higher added value, including fuel efficiency improvement performance and anti-fouling performance.

Extensive product lineup underpinned by technologies
AQUATERRAS is the world’s first completely biocide-free and proven self-polishing underwater foul-resistant ship bottom paint that uses unique technology in the marine coatings industry. A-LF-Sea is an anti-fouling paint for ship bottoms to achieve ultra-high fuel efficiency. The paint was developed based on a model of tuna skin to create a smooth surface on ship bottoms. It reduces the frictional resistance and significantly improves the fuel efficiency of vessels. The NOA system is an innovative anticorrosion coating system that enables visual assessment of the coating film thickness. We meet customers’ needs with an array of products underpinned by our technologies.

Contributing to the energy of the future from the viewpoint of anticorrosion Marine structures business
We apply the anticorrosion coating technology refined in the development of paints for vessels and contribute to maintaining and improving the asset value by protecting valuable production equipment, including offshore wind farms and other offshore equipment, from corrosion.
Global Expansion

Marine paints used in the global market
To cope with the global shipbuilding and marine transport network, we have a global system in place, with operations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America, to offer high-quality products and services. We have an integrated supply and service system under the standardized brand of Nippon Paint Marine Coatings Co., Ltd. around the world for building of new vessels and repair of vessels.
